METAMORPHING-THE HUNT BEGINS

COVER DESIGN: Avinash Sathianathan

JOT(From the jacket):

28th APRIL, 2000: Flight No. 9x4876 bound to Srinagar has crash landed into the Everest Base camp. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the flight mysteriously went off the radar for few minutes and missed its landing. All passengers are feared dead… except for three bodies that are yet to be recovered.

8th DECEMBER, 2050:This, without doubt is the most gruesome murder in recent times. Early this morning, an unidentified woman was found mutilated at the western gates of the abandoned Victoria Terminus Station in Mumbai. Authorities report her head was … well … semi-decapitated and she was drained of all her blood. The shocking part - the crime scene was devoid of any signs of blood spatter…
ROHAN: He was shorter than the shortest girl in school; he had to be ahead in the game!
RUDRA:A man without a past, coaxed into a murder investigation; will he ever grasp the true nature of the
crime?

MY REFLECTION:  The title of the book may be a  grammatical flaw, but it reminds me of the book ,'The Metamorphosis' by Franx kafka; though the story is no way related to this one, yet the plot is as thrilling and scary as this one. I love monologues and I am very glad that it  is a dual monologue. The voices behind them are Rohan and Rudra, who belong to different time phases, yet taking many mysterious turns they both come into synchrony which stands as the USP of the Novel.

Like most of the contemporary fictions, this book too has Urban life as it's backdrop, which depicts night clubs, relationships and all the flavours of the typical urban life.Both the central charecters Rohan and Rudra , lose their identities and are in serious search of  the parts in their  lives which went oblivion, which is captivating. This actually reminded me of the movie 'The Butterfly Effect', in which  the protagonist too undergoes blackouts.

Then  comes the role of  crime in the Novel. The kind of intellect depicted in the book, clearly reveal the research carried out in writing the book and the crime sequences are very  pragmatic. This helps  the reader, to give it an unstoppable read and which also triggers the reader to fancy crime thrillers.

Overall the book was a powerpacked crime thriller, imbued with many shades of literature.
