Are you the one? by Jennifer Bernard

Foreword:

Seriously, believe me, this book came across as a Mills & Boon for me. I pretty certain it might have made a same impression on you, too. Well, I hate Mills & Boon. Don't ask me. I can't answer you. Yeah, that's the truth. I can't answer. I never read any Mills & Boon, yet I hate them so much. I have this feeling that Mills & Boon are meant for women and for women only. I wouldn't have accepted this book if it wasn't by Jennifer Bernard. We share a good relation and I accepted the book for reviewing.

But believe me, I am not disappointed...

In fact, the story turned out to be way interesting than I have expected!

Plot (from the jacket):
Repayment of a debt of gratitude is Stephen's father's explanation when he arm-twists his son to fly to Chennai to meet Bella his betrothed, the daughter of an old friend. Though reluctant at the prospect of an arranged marriage, Stephen is to woo Bella, who seems to be two people - she blows hot, she blows cold and intrigues him enough to make him want to stay on.

Meanwhile, her childhood friend Michael and her sister Mira add spice to the proceedings.

Are Bella and Michael in love?

Will Stephen be able to win Bella over? Or is his trip to India fated to be a fiasco?

About the author (from GoodReads):
I [Jennifer Bernard] like making up my own stories and the only thing i like better than that is reading stories made up by other people.

And when I'm not reading or writing, people usually avoid me for their own good.
Happy endings have always held me in its thrall and I've no immediate plans on breaking myself from its clutches.

Luckily a Masters degree in Engineering keeps me fed and clothed while I play with my imaginary hot heroes and mouthy heroines.

While Romance is my favorite genre, I can read and enjoy all types of books.
Brought up immersed in one of the oldest cultures in the world, the intricacies and long lost treasures of South India fascinates me like nothing else does.

"Are you the one?" was my first foray into the world of words and I have many more on the way!

Our review:
The cover design was typical 'Mills & Boon' kinda one. It literally scares the shit out of readers like me. Actually I think this story must have been published in some other publishers, like Srishti or maybe Rupa. They have been publishing so many senseless romance novels that this book would have done a great deal good to their standard.

Pageturn Publishers. Every book on the back cover of this book, all, have the similar cover design like this book, only that the couple on the picture and their pose differed. So typical like Mills & Boon. Or maybe that this imprint, Red *full blooded romance*, has these kinda covers and stories. However, since I am not going to read any from these publishers until one of their authors are going to contact, I leave this here and carry on with the rest of the review.

I want to say a special thanks to the author, Jennifer Bernard, for the author-signed copy with a personalized message!!

Thank you, Jenni..!!

When I started reading the book, I felt a strange feeling. The same feeling I felt when I first read Love Story by Erich Segal. Well, the latter scored a perfect-ten from me.

As the story progressed, I felt like, "Hmmm... Not bad."

Basically, I liked the story. Of course, there were few parts of the story that were over-coincidental and parts where the romance is over-exaggerated. But, on the whole, the story was worth reading. It is well-plotted and the language was so reader-friendly that this is my second 'one-go' read of the week.

Final verdict:
Romance-lovers you will like it. Guys, you might also like it if you normally read other romances. This is not 'chick-only' stuff.
